Controlling and Dealing with Your Ego

Since you don't like this trait in others, ensure that you don't develop it. But if you do realize that you are full of yourself, a snob and a swellhead, and want to deal with it, this is good because it shows that you are ready to make a change.

For the next 21 days, try these suggestions. Why 21 days? That's because experts claim that it takes that amount of time to get rid, change and develop new habits. But it also depends on how long your habits have been ingrained in your system plus how consistent you follow through.

Catch yourself doing your habit

Be mindful and aware of your conversation or speech when you are alone and in the company of others. Catch yourself criticizing other people, interrupting a conversation and bragging about yourself. Once you notice it, stop immediately. Tell yourself that the next time you will listen until someone finishes his sentence and won't make any judgment. Remind yourself that you want to become modest and humble.

Take notes

Carry a notebook along with you. Each time you find yourself talking and behaving in a manner that's unpleasant, write it down. Write down what you said and did before and after you noticed your behavior. Include those that you say inside your head. At the end of the day, go through it and see how many times you interrupted your patterns of thoughts and behavior. As the days go by, if you persist, you'll notice a change.

Use creative imagination

Imagine yourself surrounded with friends, talking, interacting, and changing ideas. You have a good time listening to them and they too enjoy your company. You laugh and have fun. Your friends ask for your opinions and you ask theirs. This is an example of a situation that you can imagine yourself in. Create your own mental picture and visualize it daily. Fill in all the details that you want to experience.

Use positive affirmation

Positive affirmation when used together with creative imagination and visualization is a powerful tool to manifest your goal or desire. Use it at other times also. Write down what you want to affirm, for example, "I choose to have many friends who love my company and I love theirs too," or "I no longer choose to be egoistic. I choose to be modest and exercise humility." Say it to yourself as many times as you want to remind yourself of your goal.

Try subliminal messages

A subliminal message is a statement below your conscious awareness. You can't hear or see it but your mind will recognize them when you listen or watch a recording with the messages embedded. You can try the MindMaster which is a words and image subliminal message tool. It's designed to assist you in changing your habits and overwrite your false beliefs and help you reach your goals easier and faster.
