Coconut oil has many uses. It can be used as cooking oil, skin moisturizer, and medicine. The compounds present in coconut oil give it many benefits. For example, in virgin coconut oil, you can find saturated fats, lauric acid, and vitamin E. Vitamin E is great for your skin and body.
Saturated fats that are found in coconut oil are mostly triglycerides and medium chain fatty acids. These fats help keep skin healthy, fighting aging and moisturizing your skin as well. If we ingest these fats, they make their way under the skin as subcutaneous fat. Something that may or may not be desired. In a healthy person with normal body fat, these can help keep the body and skin healthy.
Many other properties that are found in coconut oil might have a weird name but aren’t bad for your skin. It is important to research anything that makes you think different about using a product. Lauric, caprylic, or capric acid are also found in coconut oil. They have unique and strong anti-microbial and disinfectant properties. They help the skin protect the body against infection and disease, whether taken orally or used superficially on the skin. Vitamin E is similar: it protects against cracking and aging of the skin.
Anything that will help prevent your skin from sagging and wrinkling is a common goal for most skin care products and users. It bolsters the connective tissues within the skin and keeps the skin from sagging. Virgin coconut oil is a main ingredient in many lotions for this reason; it does wonders for the skin. It’s also good for massage, as it doesn’t dry out the skin in the same way mineral oils do.
Many other skin care products containing other oils go bad fast. Coconut oil does not. A rancid oil can cause skin irritation and infection, but coconut oil does not have any problems like this. Instead, it retains its original form for much longer than most other fruit or flower-based oils. However, refining virgin coconut oil often leads to a loss of one or more of these properties; if you’re going to use coconut oil, ensure that you’re using the virgin kind.
